Himal Iron & Steel

In the early half of the twentieth century, Nepal imported all materials required for the construction of its infrastructure. It was made more challenging because very few motorable roads existed. In 1950s, after overthrowing the Rana regime, Prime Minister B.P. Koirala appealed to all Nepalese to help in the development of the nation. Heeding the call, Manisharsha Jyoti setup Nepal’s first iron and steel factory in the jungles of Parwanipur and Nepal’s first cement factory in Chobar, Kathmandu to lead Nepal into self sufficiency and to accelerate Nepal’s infrastructure growth.

Himal Iron & Steel (P) Ltd (Himal Steel) factory was inaugurated by King Mahendra in 1961 in Parwanipur, Parsa. It was Nepal’s first iron and steel plant. It commenced with the production of plain bars. It later followed it with the production cold twisted Torsteel bars.

Today, Himal Steel produces high strength TMT Tempcore bars. It is renowned among its customers for its high quality products, innovative features and customer friendly marketing. After more than 50 years, it remains a pioneering force in Nepal’s iron and steel industry.
